It was a clear day but too cold to sit outside so we decided to join the almost full room inside. The bread and menus came quickly and as usual we shared our lunch. Ed ordered a so called Tartine of smoked salmon, an open faced sandwich on delicious and crispy whole wheat bread. Instead of the usual cream cheese the bread was spread with a thin layer of crème fraiche. On top, a very generous mound of cured salmon finished the sandwich. Some baby greens on the side and there you have it, simple and absolutely delicious. Perfection. I ordered one of the daily specials, a Cobb Salad that was not chopped, and instead of the traditional bib lettuce, the oh-so-popular Carpinteria or baby greens were used. Other than that, every ingredient was there, hard boiled egg, bacon, chicken, avocado, tomatoes and some crumbled Roquefort cheese, a little vinaigrette to finish it off and voila, enjoy. Our waiter, a young chap who knew what he was doing, was pleasant, fast, and courteous without being either tacky or over attentive. We had with us a large guide of The Santa Barbara Film Festival; he commented he was trying to get one but didn’t know where. Ed gave it to him in an uncharacteristic display of generosity. He was so pleased with the present even though I’m sure it crossed his mind that may have been his tip. Not! It was a great lunch with impeccable service and great views. Prices are moderate, $7.95 for either dish. The coffee could have had used a little more punch, but hey, another good find. We will be back. Hate to admit, but we will. To finish this incredibly beautiful afternoon I took in a French movie offered by the Santa Barbara Film Festival, Bon Voyage staring Gerard Depardieu and a stunning Isabelle Adjani.
