Polo is a horrid sport in which horses are regularly seriously injured or killed. NO thanks.

Very cool they decided to come to SB of all the other possibles in CA. Heck, they could have stayed all weekend in Glitztown USA with the Hollywood elite.

Will anybody EdHat subscribers be in attendance at the polo match to get some great shots?

The couple only arrived at LAX late yesterday afternoon (Friday) so I'd hardly call that being here "most of the week". Also they don't visit Skid Row until Sunday morning.

The horses are referred to as 'ponies". "Horrid" ? No. It's fabulous. Most sports contain a degree of personal danger. Except perhaps the zombie - like golf and cricket . I have never seen a pony killed but no doubt this can tragically happen, as it does to one's horror on the race course. The injuries claimed by the riders are certainly unpleasant and painful, including but clearly not exclusive to, broken collarbones and fractured limbs. However, this does not deter the enthusiastic players, for this game played with enormous skill by both pony and rider, is both thrilling and exhilarating.

063, you don't go to many polo games. Ponies are frequently injured and though most will not die, they do suffer greatly and a LOT of them will suffer debilitating injuries that end their "career" or they are quietly put to death off the field, away from spectator view. The fact that you don't see this as a spectator doesn't mean it doesn't happen....and often. Even in our lovely little town.

It's the dirty little secret of polo. Talk all you want about personal danger, but the people choose to be part of the sport, the ponies do not.
