That's all we need - more "power dogs" out on the loose to terrorize citizens and get their owners into a heap of legal trouble.

67P Dogs are like people, they are the product of their environment. We had a sweet and gentle female Rotty who never knew how to terrify, while the neighbour's small terrier was a nasty little thing who bit the maiilman and attacked joggers.

Touche' 67P. I've owned three Rottys, all of whom were/are gentle, loving souls. At the risk of beating a dead horse, I am tired of the misunderstanding and ignorance out there pertaining to certain breeds. One problem I recognize is, that because of their reputation, some people go purchase these animals for the unwanted reputation Rottys have received. Others, the ignorant, uneducated, shoot-from-the-hip skells who do no more than see "Rotty"; "Mastif''; "Doberman"; et al, jump to conclusions with no basis in fact whatsoever. Cops included.
Moral of story: world is gray; open your mind; read, experience, learn, and venture out the hole in order to comprehend issues before you draw conclusions. Thank you.

I report stray dogs in the hope the owners will get to the dog before animal control does..

500 Bravo! We had a Chow- Chow and an Alaskhan Malamute and both were just teddy bears. Our Scottie was a hallion but his sister was sweet. Guess there is always one in the family!

I don't care how sweet your particular dog is, dangerous breeds should always be on a leash or contained NO MATTER WHAT. Nearly had my leg chewed off by a bull dog the other day who I'm sure his owners think is an angel.

I too have a very sweet female rottweiler who once hid under my bed when my husband got home because she thought, in his big winter jacket, he was a scary person. No joke. We laughed so hard and my husband had to lift the bed to get her out because she didn't fit. She's small for a pure bred grown rotty - 75 pounds -- but she still doens't fit under a bed. She is also afraid if more than one large dog approach her at the same time and hides between my legs until she has a chance to greet them and become friends. She is so gentle and loving.
552 - you're ignorant. You even say "dangerous breeds should be on a leash" -- if you're going to make that kind of statement, you should say "all breeds". I am way more afraid of a small yappy dog biting me than another rottweiler or other "dangerous breed." 500 - you hit the nail on the head.

Any and all breeds have the ability to bite. I have met many dogs that are considered "dangerous breeds", who are lovebugs. And have witnessed many small dogs (that are considered non threatening), that bring new meaning to the word terror. Please do not judge the book (dog), by it's cover.

Those last two comments made me laugh. Dog political correctness.

Let's take a poll. I own a Doberman. Been bitten by an Aussie and a Rottweiler. Been threatened by a Mastiff, a Yorkie, Westie, Dalmation, Dachshund, Chi, Skipperke, jack Russell, standard poodle, border collie. My mom attacked by 2 German Shepherd Dogs. My sister bitten in the face by a chocolate lab. I don't personally know anyone who has ever been bitten by a "pitbull" or the bully breeds. I'm just one person, but my "statistics" don't match what people think. Anyone else want to weigh in?
