It's not possible to go by the leaves to identify a plant's relatives, one has to see the flower. That's what the botanists go by. Plants are "plastic" and can take on very different forms depending on their native environment, climate and soil, but the flowers are always similar in structure.

279107--you could be right. I was comparing my picture to a true Peniocereus J. that had no flower. The flower does look more like an epiphyllum (as I'd originally thought), but the foliage of true P.J. plant was very similar--triangular with tiny spines on the ridges. I have a Hylocereus. The foliage is different. Maybe a cross is the best guess.

I have to disagree completely. This is a hybrid Epiphyllum possibly crossed with a Hylocereus giving it the triangular leaves. Peniocereus j. flowers are much different as is the rest of the plant...

What's the diameter of the flower? Looks like almost 8 inches. So gorgeous. I tend to call all these epiphytic cacti epiphyllums, just as a generic catch-all. Good to learn the actual name.
