Great. Right by the Lobero theater and right around the time many Lobero events get out. Vagrants have destroyed shopping down town, all of our parks, the beachfront, and now our evening entertainment activities. The new permissive city council voters just put in, are you listening?

This is really disheartening! I usually walk my dog around 8:30-9:00 at night and have never considered it dangerous! I live very close to downtown on the east side by Alice Keck Park Garden and there is usually a fair amount of traffic out at that time so it feels somewhat safe. I guess I will have to rethink that and stick closer to home. Also, Alameda Park seems to have become a permanent home for a handful of homeless people and the downtown area looks terrible. I am very sympathetic about those folks going through tough times, but I see the same faces downtown looking for handouts and its depressing. I agree with 489 ... what is our city council doing about all this??

I think the police are on alert about this persons actions and hopefully they will get him before he...Does it again. A few weeks ago there was a reported rape in the 100 Block of East Sola that is near Alemeda Park. Sexual Assault is a groper, someone grabbing in a sexual manner. It is not the actual act of rape. The City council? The ones that promiced to curb crime if they got elected. What are they doing? That is the question of the year...

Voters just changed the majority of the city council back to bleeding hearts, let's give everyone a hug. That is what the city council is doing about it. Electing Murillo put the city back on the wrong track again. Thank yourself for increasing crime rather than the former conservative majorities public safety priority. Elections have consequences and you did this one to yourself, SB. "Kick a Cop" is the new city council mantra. You all remember how successful that was just a few years ago? I guess you forgot.

Wow, most of the comments here are so exaggerated, SB is one of the safest places in the world unless you want to live in sort of “Truman show” type of scenario— This has nothing to do with liberals or conservatives by the way—more cops will not help, what are they going to do? Put someone in Jail for the crime of not having a house or place to go? Instead of paying that cop $75k ++ a year for driving around looking for DUI’s on weekends, create a re-training program or affordable housing program for people who are struggling and do not have the opportunities we all have.

577 stop already. The 'people who are struggling and don't have the opportunities' DO NOT EXIST. This is America, where poor immigrant kids can work hard and become Andrew Carnegie. A lot of what's walking around town is newly released felons masquerading as homeless. They assault, break-in and strong-arm rob the rest of us.

@460 - Cover Story on Yahoo, ABC News, CNN, and others within the past week is about recent college grads with PhD's, MS degrees, and MBA-Finance degrees from excellent schools who are subsisting on minimum wage and tips. Maybe those rose-colored glasses need to be replaced with a new prescription of 2012 reality.

I don't know many pro-sexual assault liberals. I think serious crime is something for which we need to put politics aside and work on together. I do think of SB as relatively safe, but this is pretty appalling. Only 9:15 pm in the heart of downtown. I hope this creep is caught soon.
