I couldn't agree more with Robert.

My husband and I were extremely impressed. In fact, my husband is European and he has seen so many great entertainers over the years. He ranks this as one of the best.
Only complaint: The visual for 'Be True to Your School' should have featured Santa Barbara High School.

Nice review. So often, reviews never actually answer basic, justifiable questions such as - Was it any good? Did you enjoy it? Were there pre-recorded tracks? I really appreciate just a simple acknowledgement like - "To me, it all sounded good." Well done.

I loved the concert, too! It was fun, fun, fun! I think they showed their high school days for the song " Be True to Your School."
It brought back a flood of great memories including riding in my friend's T-Bird until her Daddy took it away...that really happened...Bob's Big Boy in Toluca Lake was our hang-out.

At some concerts they don't want cameras or recording devices. However, The Dead and Further allow cameras and I've heard taped recordings of Grateful Dead concerts, a guy was giving them away at a Shoreling "Further" concert last year. At the last "Further" one at the bowl people w/cameras could stand in front of the stage. I guess they don't feel threatened by fans getting photos, like they might sell them and make a buck. The guys have the real old "peace and love" hippie attitude.

Thank you for the kind words about my review! And glad others agree it was a "fun, fun, fun" show!

For me, writing down the set list is one of the best ways to help remember what they were doing and when they were doing it.

Dancing Frances reminded me that there was one other recorded song: "Forever" with Dennis Wilson. I have updated the set list to show this.

As a UCSB Gaucho myself (Physics dept grad school) I like that they flashed the UCSB Gauchos up for "Be True to Your School".

As for Bowl security, cameras are only one small part of the hassles. They will hassle you if you try to bring in a healthy snack or a water bottle. What a waste of resources to sell all those plastic bottles for thousands of people.

The security hassles make me prefer the Arlington, Lobero, Granada or even the Chumash Casino. Those places have no security hassles.

It was a slow embarrassing start that ended strong. Weak, aging voices off key with no signature falsetto or exquisite blends. Way too much thumping bass drowned out the underlying musical finesse, at least up in the cheap seats.

They did not look like they enjoyed playing with each other either, but since this was their first concert on this tour there must have been major distractions working around what too often was poor sound amplification and even screeching mikes. Mikes not to love, eh? Work in progress.

By the second act and the tender opening surrounding genius song meister Brian Wilson at his grand white piano they all connected with each other and the rest of the concert took off, soared and the entire audience was on their feet rocking and crooning with them word for word to the blissful end. Rock on, boys.

Mike Love lived on the Mesa near Thousand steps in the early 80s. He was always friendly and easy to chat with. He moved from SB to live in a healthy retreat. Those were the days when SB was as laid back as the Boys music. Ahhh-good times, lots of good local music.
