Since the 1960’s, artists have debated the benefits of a graduate degree in visual art. With the rise in graduate program costs and the increasing globalization of the contemporary art market, is an MFA still seen as "the first legitimator in an artist’s career,” as Sarah Thornton concludes in Seven Days in the Art World? Join us for a panel discussion considering the pros and cons of the Masters of Fine Arts. Panelists include Ann Bermingham, professor and researcher at the University of California Santa Barbara; Jane Chafin, gallery owner and writer; Piero Golia, LA-based artist; Nathan Hayden, MFA graduate and artist; Kori Newkirk, MFA graduate and LA-based artist; and Hank Pitcher, Santa Barbara-based artist and BFA graduate.
