My boyfriend and I are at a loss as to where to dine on New Year's
Eve. What restaurants offering a special
and/or pre-fixe menu for NYE? Any information would be most
appreciated.

Almost all will be expensive. Go to Whole Foods and choose from their extensive hot buffet, salad bar, soups, and stews. Then go home and enjoy in comfort! Happy New Year To All :-)

Julienne would be an excellent choice: Early Seating: Open from 6:00pm to 8:00pm for a three course dinner paired with wine offered at $60 per person. Late Seating: Open from 8:30pm to 10:00pm for a six course dinner paired with wine offered at $120 per person.

The question should be asked, what restaurants are NOT having a price fixe (wallet gauging) menu for New Years... I called a few places, and most are serving only a special ($$$) menu, but several are offering their regular menu, in addition to nightly specials, greatly appreciated in these tough economic times. Among them are: Harry's Pascucci Cafe del Sol This Thursdays Independent will probably have listings, as well

We splurged a few years ago and went to the Wine Cask for their fixed New Year's dinner. I would highly recommend it. It's totally worth the money for a nice night out and the food and wine pairings were really, really good. So fun! Of course, there's always Whole Foods deli, a bottle of champagne and the Twilight Zone Marathon...... :) Happy New Year!

Root 246 in the Hotel Corque, Solvang: Prix Fixe with three seatings. Ultra- classy place - Awesome wine selection & impeccable service & you can tour the kitchen & meet Bradley Ogdan. Hitching Post in Buellton: No prix fixe and the BEST steaks & oak grilled food anywhere. They set the bar for all others. Great wine selection too.

Root 246 is pretty good, but it's very frustrating they always seem to be out of items on their small menu. I can understand when it's late at night, but at 7pm that's inexcuseable. I'm all for farm to table dining and tight menus, but if you don't have enough product on hand, make sure you have enough other options to alter the menu as the night progress if dishes begin selling out. Root 246 seems to have a solid concept, but the execution is a bit lacking, also combine that with the trashy casino crowds that seems to be in the mix their now, I'll skip it for better options elsewhere.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations -- and good question about who is NOT going to be $$$ gouging on NYE -- the recommendations on those are much appreciated as well. We're in a bit of a celebratory mood, however, so we're willing to splurge -- a bit. Happy New Year to Everyone! : )

Vineyard House in Santa Ynez is not gouging with a prix fixe menu but will have some special specials. Owner Jim has been sensitive to people's wallets on special occasions in recent years. Agree that Hotel Corque in Solvang is overpriced and caters to the L.A. tourists. Way better choices in SYV. Hitching Post, Ballard Inn, Grappolo's.

Zookers in Carpinteria is having their regular delicious and reasonably priced menu, is a quieter romantic setting, and will not be the "scene" that is much of State St. on NYE in Santa Barbara. They recommend reservations for NYE.

Roy, definitely the best place for dinner for New Years. But they may be sold out, if they even take reservations. Good music there after 10pm. Speaking of music, head out to Break Time in Goleta for dancing. No cover, low key local spot. The rock and roll music they play will NOT be the mindless bass-thumping junk geared for the younger generation.

Given the fact that so many restaurants limit offerings and bump up prices while reducing service, you are better off staying home. Add to that price gouging phenomenon the fact that the so called war on "drunk drivers" only resulted in lowering the blood-alcohol content levels, sufficient to arrest someone under state "drunk driving" laws, to very low levels, at which most people would feel nothing and are not significantly influenced in their driving ability, all the more reason to stay home. These are good people being arrested, who had a very modest amount of alcohol. like a pre-dinner cockrtail and perehaps a couple of glasses of wine with dinner. It is not safe to be out on the road after dining out for the evening unless you are willing to pay extravagant cab fares, have a "tea-toter" as a designated driver, or are a millionaire with money to burn and a good DUI lawyer!

We always enjoy going to Jill's Place on New Years Eve. Its close to downtown but you're not in the middle of the madness. Their food is always excellent and the prices are resonable because you get value! We've never had a hard time getting a reservation, even when we call the day of. They too have strong cocktails, a great wine list and excellent steaks, seafood and chicken. Happy New Year!

131836P What "ilk "is that? People who want to have some wine with dinner or a cocktailk before dinner? The fact is that truly DRUNK drivers are still out there on the road. The foolhardy solution, which is not a solution, is to keep lowering blood -alcohol levels where people are not under the influence in any meaningful way and then calling them "Drunks" or "Drunk Drivers" and throwing them in jail. It is readily apparent that these laws are unrealistic and most states (unlike California) have separate offenses such as impaired driving and other lesser offenses rather than classifying everyone as a drunk driver. Most everyone can recognize a drunk and would prevent them from driving where possible, so idiotic expressions like friends don't let friends drive "drunk" or signs saying "report drunk drivers" just contribute to the misinformation about what constitutes the offense!

Cafe Buenos Aires offers 2 dinners. The first seating is 4 courses from 5-8:30 ($49). The second seating is 5 courses from 9-1am ($69). I think it's more reasonable than other places, and it's great food and music!

Solvang's Corque and the 246 restaurant are both owned and operated by the Chumash tribe and you will find the trashy casino crowds there because "comps" are offered to those who have lost enough money at the casino to have "earned" some free food. (provided it is recorded on your "players card") For example if you lose two or three thousand dollars you get a "free" lobster dinner! In addition as a tribal owned business, if anything happens to you while there or on the property you can't sue for any injury or damages you may have sudffered because the tribe and it's businesses are immune from lawsuit for all of their misdeeds no matter how outrageous they may be!

Sorry but 131830 is watching too much tv. It's perfectly safe to go out on NYE, much more so than in many other cities. We're lucky to live here and have a lot of choices for going out. It's nice to stay in if you want, but staying in because you're paranoid and enocouraging everyone else to be too is just sad.

Maybe this is too late to reply to this thread, but I don't know how to start a new one. What about New Year's activities for teens? The City's teen calendar hasn't been updated since May... Anyone know of activities planned for the 15-19 set that's all dressed up with no where to go??
