Swimwear
updated: Mar 29, 2011, 1:11 PM

I swim laps and would like to know where I can find a good selection of women's swimsuits. The local department stores have suits that won't hold up to lots of swimming in chlorine or salt water, so I need something like a Speedo.

I'm not sure if it's still there but there's a "beachy" type place in La Cumbre mall near Sears. I believe that's where I got my last Speedo (still have it). Good luck.

Sundance beach in the marketplace has some good swimsuits, but most of them are more fashion oriented. They have a smaller selection of more "serious" swimwear. Also Sportsmart has some good Speedo womens' bathing suits.

Sear's at La Cumbre carries Land's End and the swimwear from Land's End is great because of it's mix and match capabilities. You can order it online from landsend.com as well.

I just got one at Sportsmart, on sale too. Costco (at least last week) only had Juicy Couture and little kids' brands. They were cute, but frilly and not exactly durable everyday chlorinated water material.

Do any of these places have bikini tops with underwire? They are so hard to find.

Check Land's End online. I've gotten good suits from them in the past.

I've had good luck with Bikini Factory in Summerland with underwire tops and one-pieces. They are slightly pricier, but every one I've bought from them is still in good condition and they look much more custom fitting than any other suit I've bought.

If you want a good quality suit that is made to fit you I agree with Bikini Factory. My mom is well endowed in the chest and was finally able to find a one piece that gave her support and stayed on. If you have the patience you can usually get speedo at Big 5 or Sportsmart in Camino Real Marketplace. Sometimes the surf shops will carry more practical suits as well.

Try Ross's. They are very reasonable, lots of sizes and stylish enough for lap swimming. I buy them two or three at a time.

My handle says it all!....the very best place?...that would be SwimOutlet.com.....they have what you're looking for. All the major swimmers brands, Speedo, TYR, etc. If you want to get them local, Goleta Sports...not a lot of selection, but I like to support this business.

I haven't found great lap suits locally that fit middle-aged types. I've bought from llbean and last time from swimoutlet.com.

Thanks!

Costco, early in the year, Sports authority, Sundance Beach and Ross all have a good selection. You will find all these stores in the Camino Real Marketplace. I usually buy 5 Costco suits in January, then I am set for the year for swimming, which I do at the Goleta Valley Athletic club year round in the open air pool.

I have been buying my swimsuits for lap swimming for years from Land's End.Very satisfied. Get the same tank swimsuit every time and it lasts a very long time. Not true for L.L. Bean. Their elastic gives way quickly.

Lap swimming? Santa Barbara Swim Club Masters of course! Two sessions per day of coached workouts with Coach A.B. at beautiful, historic Los Banos del Mar pool.

#159306 - Beside the pools mentioned, I love the pool at the Montecito Y for laps. I think there's a good pool at the Santa Barbara Y too, though I'm not sure.
