Slow Speed Ahead
March 12, 2010
Samarkand is the name of the city where mythical Queen Scheherazade spent her 1001 Arabian nights. But, if you're looking for an exciting place to spend a night in Santa Barbara, the Samarkand Senior Residence is probably not the place to go. While the building has an interesting history, today, fast cars and cheap thrills are out of the question and even forbidden. For one thing, the speed limit at Samarkand is a single digit square that won't even begin to rev your engine.
You may have thought that seven ate nine, but nine is alive and well, and is the posted speed limit at the residence. Nine is an interesting choice. Why not seven or eight … or even ten, which is a nice, round number?
But yesterday, for the ninth day of 2010 March Edness, the nine MPH speed limit sign was a jewel to be found, and only about nine contestants were able to locate it.
This sign shown in the picture is located off of Tallant Road, near the entrance to the underground parking garage of one of the independent living facilities on the Samarkand campus.
