I'd like to get a referral for the best place for my daughter to take her
wedding dress to be professionally cleaned and arranged for storage.

Don't know if this will help you, but when I got married 51 years ago, I just took my dress, uncleaned, and folded it up in a 100% cotton white sheet, rolled it and stuffed it into a tight fit corrugated cardboard box. This was advice I was given back then. There it sat for 30 years until my daughter got married and decided she wanted to wear that dress. We took it out, unrolled it and brought it to St. Paul's Cleaners on Bath St. and had it cleaned. It came out perfect. She wore it for her wedding. It is now stored in exactly the same way it was stored for the first 30 years. Hope this helps if no body has a better idea.

I had mine done at Ablitt's on W. Gutierrez and have been happy with the job. It's been 5 years and on their recommendation I open the box every year to refold it (so as not to get fold marks), and everything still looks great!

My wife had hers cleaned and boxed after our wedding. I kept nagging her to give it away, because she'd never wear it again, it might help someone else out, and it took up a lot of space in our garage. Finally, after 13 years, she unboxed it, only to find that it hadn't been properly cleaned and was stained. She donated it anyway, and I hope the recipients could clean it up. We were quite dissapointed in the cleaners, but what can you do after 13 years.

@546P...wow, that's amazing, and good advice. Ablitts would have been my choice, but after reading the first post, I'd say her method is a proven winner, and free!

I would say that keeping a wedding dress would indicate, it might be needed again. But obviously it is. Not only as an heirloom with daughters using it, but also wedding dresses (Unaltered) have been used as a christening gown for the babies.

I got married in Los Angeles and had my dress cleaned at French Laundry and Dry Cleaning in Pasadena. They hand cleaned the dress, pressed it, and packaged it for storage quite beautifully. My dress was a sample gown and they did a great job cleaning it before the wedding as well.
