Used to be Paradise Cafe, but got tired of the bums and homeless hassles when parking, now it's Carlitos Cadillac Margarita

I really enjoy Playa Azul's variety of margarita choices and am still working through their menu -- so far, the Patron is my favorite. They also have a wonderful happy hour appetizer list -- their rajas con queso are fabulous and really reasonably priced.

Honestly? For a fraction of the high prices you pay in restaurants, I prefer to make my own. Anyone remember the margs at, was it Pescadoro's, on Milpas years ago? They had great, cheap margs and the best fish tacos. Here's a recipe that closely mimics that margarita. This is enough for 2 healthy drinks: 6 oz tequila 1.5 oz grand marnier 2 oz simple syrup 4 oz fresh lime juice Shake it all up in a cocktail shaker and pour over ice in a salted glass. Delish!

Isn't the joy of finding the perfect margarita, or anything, in the pursuit of of finding it on your own?

Cielito in La Arcada Plaza. They are so good! No extra sugary mixtures, just really good tequila and fresh juice. And they now offer happy hour so their margaritas are $6 from 4:00-5:30pm Tues.-Sun.

We like ours: equal parts good tequila, lime juice and triple sec. We'll have to try some of the suggestions though.

Haven't we been over this before?....I like 852's recipe...exactly how I would make them at home. But if I had to get one out, another nod to Cafe del Sol :-)

What's the average cost of these great sounding margaritas all over town? Honestly, $6 for a Happy Hour one sounds about right considering the ingredients, where the non HR margs must be steep like the over-priced martinis in this town.

El Paseo. We did a walking tour of margaritas when our niece turned 21, including Carlitos, and found World Famous El Paseo to be perfect. Just went there again a couple of weeks ago with visitors, and they loved them. Plus they have thin warm tortilla chips & salsa that you can see being made right on the premises. Yum!! 10 El Paseo in the Courtyard between the 800 block of State St & Anacapa St - across the street from Paseo Nuevo 805-962-6050

Carlito's mango margarita is super yummy and their chips are good too. For home margaritas best tequila is Corralejo (preferably red bottle but the other ones are good too).

Carlitos @ $9 & the Four Seasons @ $17 are absolutely insane prices unless you're past the well-healed stage in live and can toss that kind of money away for basic ice drinks with a tad of booze & flavoring. Yeah, yeah, I know. The surroundings are pretty.

The joy is in the quest and not in the destination. That said, I prefer my own home made ones. Patron tequila, Grand Marnier, lime juice from my lime tree picked that day. Ditch the sugar, serve on ice. Enjoy.

Beachside Cafe's Back Bar Margarita is great. As is Hollister Brewing Company "Classic Margarita." It is not too sweet, excellent tequila/grand marnier. You need to ask for it. Also, agree w/Boathouse and Blood Orange Marg. recommendations.

This graying gringo's family recipe is: Get out the old blender and add... One can frozen limeade; Re-fill can with your favorite tequila; Re-fill the can again halfway with triple sec; Add an egg white; Add some ice if you like it slushy, or omit for on the rocks; Blend until frothy. Serve in a glass rimmed with kosher salt (dip the glass in the mix and then into a plate of salt). Try it with orange juice concentrate too, and try adding a very ripe banana for extra body (also helps emulsify the ice for a slushy, but don't do it for a on-the-rocks version).

Cafe del Sol, because they use only Tequila, Triple Sec and Lime. None of that nasty, phony, "Sweet & Sour" stuff.
