Crab Identification
updated: Apr 25, 2012, 3:15 PM

By Edhat Subscriber

I found this interesting crab washed up on west beach yesterday. I have never seen one like it, and was wondering if anyone knows what kind it is? Very interesting with the big arms, and small body. At first I thought the back half of the body was missing. He was alive, but did not seen to be doing so well.

Looks like the crab that grabbed my big toe in the marina.

Wow, great find and good pics. As a 100 days a yr beachwalker I don't recall every seeing one of these, but see three or four other species regularly after big swells. Interesting in that we haven't had any significant swells for weeks and the west beach is a very calm water location.

It doesn't look right. Could it be a victim from the Japanese earthquake.
