With the approaching warm summer, I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a good coffee house in SB with air conditioning?

Usually Summer is foggy. Heat doesn't start until September.

Yup, usually not hot here at all but I bet that most of the Starbucks have A/C.

Starbucks counter in Vons-Fairview. Then, take your cup over to the meat section by the open coolers.

I've lived here for 11 years, and never once needed AC... except perhaps when driving south down to LA. For the most part, Santa Barbara is pretty mild.

It gets hot here sometimes. We bought an air conditioner for our upstairs office because it became uncomfortable. I do agree that it doesn't get hot till late summer though (usually). I think most businesses around here have AC.

i laugh at the people all over the southern California coast saying there is no need for air conditioning. Yesterday was 85 degrees and regularly during the summer it is 85 to 90 degrees where we live in Santa Barbara. We did install air conditioning and are very, very pleased with it and use it all the time. Before we were hot, sticky, and sweaty in our own home. Now happy campers. Great to walk into the home on a hot day to cool down.

Wouldn't it be nice if we actually had a warm summer? I seem to remember fog until mid-August last year, or was that a bad dream?

Starbucks in the Camino Real Shopping Center is a great spot. Plenty of space and it's cool in there (a/c). It's also nice to stroll the shopping center after enjoying your beverage. Cheers! In my opinion SB does get hot throughout the year to the extent of needing an A/C unit. I dislike being sticky from being so warm unless I'm at the beach or at the lake.

A couple of years ago on Summer Solstice Parade day it was 95 at midnight in the La Cumbre Plaza area and we had to spend our anniversary sleeping downstairs on the couch & love seat (separate beds?) while downtown was a lot cooler. No we don't usually need airconditioning but sometimes it is a blessing to go someplace that has it.

Yep. I wholly agree with 617. So much depends on your microclimate! San Roque, *below,* let alone above, Foothill, is always 10-15 degrees hotter during heat waves than my place closer to, but many blocks from, the ocean. The need for cooling depends on your location, window placement, age, health & tolerance. As a "local," my tolerance is low. lol I use fans & a wet t-shirt if it gets *that* bad. Don't get me started on reporting "Santa Barbara's Temperature" from the AIRPORT!! Grrrrr. ;-) Go to wunderground & look up a weather station near your home. Check out the 10-20 degree differences around town.

And yes, SB summer usually starts in September. Not to mention the outdoor bbq pictures we like to send out from 12/25 and 12/31 (evil grin).

Yin Yang--If you go to the NWS local forecast, you can click on just where you live and get a point forecast that is much more accurate than the general ones. I couldn't justify the cost of installing or running A/C for the possibly 20-30 days a year maximum that it would be really helpful. Open windows, fans, shade, those have done the trick so far. And we are so fortunate in SB that it almost always cools down at night, thanks to the ocean. Open windows at night, close them when the temperature starts to climb in the morning, and if the place is relatively well insulated, the temperature is manageable. That's how they've done it in warm parts of the world for millennia.

Holy Toledo! Try an iced coffee or you could sit in your car with the ac on and car running of course. The global warming, greenhouse gas message is clearly not reaching the right audience.
