Taken to the Cleaners
updated: May 14, 2012, 8:48 PM
Can anyone recommend a cleaner for a suede jacket? Ablitt's said they do not do that work and would have to send it to Los Angeles and it would cost about $100. Martinizing said they also do not clean suede and would have to send it out and it would cost about $75 to $80. I don't remember what I paid for the jacket, but it was on sale and my memory is that is wasn't much more than what the cleaners are quoting to me.

If it's spots, try a suede cleaner that's like a pumice stone (find out how to use it). Consult with consignment stores. Call Jedlicka's! I have some ballpoint ink on my favorite suede jacket, darnit! Haven't consulted about that. But I have fixed small marks/stains with a stone. Google "pumice suede cleaner"

I'd call or go by and ask Bill Lewis at California Cleaners on East Canon Perdido just before Milpas, The man's a genius in his field. :-)

Once leather or suede is cleaned it has never turned out the same (for me). I go with the Spot cleaning. You can try cornmeal over a grease mark. Leave it on it over night and brush the next day. There are many old remedies that will make the stain appear lighter. If you can live with a little imperfection, I'd go without cleaning it. Remember the pros are using strong chemicals on what is skin.

My first call would be to Ecofriendly Cleaners. They did a superb job on my leather jacket. I think they do suede too.
