Beach Boys
updated: May 29, 2012, 12:54 PM

By Robert Bernstein

Last night I attended the Beach Boys concert at the Bowl. Because of a number of past unpleasant problems with security people at the Bowl I did not bring my camera.

However, here I have posted the play list from the event. Thanks to neighboring energetically dancing fan Frances who filled me in on the songs I did not know. She also let me know who was singing them originally and at this performance.

I grew up hearing the Beach Boys on the radio but never got to see them perform until last night. I had no expectations, but was pleased that the surviving members were all there and they gave it their best effort. To me, it all sounded good.

And there was only one song that had a recorded lead (God Only Knows) and they made it clear that it was a recording of the late Carl Wilson singing, complete with video.

They played from 6:20 to 9:05PM with just a 20 minute break. Way impressive! They played all the hits I remember and some I had never heard before. Two were from a new album they will release soon called "That's Why God Made the Radio". They also played some hits by other artists and even a folk tune or two.

I counted 45 songs total. Yes, the tickets were not cheap at $125 each down in front, but for me it was worth every penny! A night I will remember!

Best wishes, Robert
