My husband (an engineer, and you know how picky they are!) and I are very particular about people we hire and we are big fans of Steve at Pure Matilija (805) 963-7873/ (805) 963-3408.

We had him (his company) install the RO system in our current home, and he will be installing the RO System, and other water treatment systems, in our new home as part of our renovation project.

I have a friend who recently had a RO system installed in her home by another company and she is very unhappy. She thought that the company she picked would be inexpensive, but after we talked, she realized that I hadn't spent any more and I had a better system. So, if you are asking for bids, don't automatically assume that you'd be paying more to have a real professional company install/service your RO unit.

Rayne -- very dependable and great service

I am appreciative of the recommendations, however I have the unit and would prefer not to purchase another. I just need someone knowledgeable to troubleshoot. I think that Rayne and Matilija only service units they sell.

I used Goodland Plumbing for my reverse osmosis system and we love it! They do a great job.

I have always had Jim Gallion service my system for years. The original unit was not installed by him. His # is 688-2375 at Equipure.

The only company I trust for water is The Water Store on Hollister between Patterson and Ward Drive (Corner of Chapel Street). They will service, install, or just sell you a gallon of the best water you can get in Santa Barbara County.

Serviced? I change my filters and pressure myself. Google.

How do you know when the filter needs replacing? RO came in our house and it's our first experience with this system. Best tasting water using RO...hands down!

Call Harm at Seymore-Meijer water. 805-403-6572. He is the best.

I would probably try to do it myself next time. Wasn't too impressed with Seymore-Meijer (one filter left uninstalled, a minor leak or two which we were easily able to correct, and was worried that the cabinet doors were going to get tweaked from being used to assist the installer getting up and down from hands and knees), but they were otherwise O.K.

In response to question about how do you know when to replace filters: I purchased a tds (total dissolved solids) meter from Amazon for about $25., to can determine whether water system is doing its job. Otherwise you are at the mercy of driving your water somewhere to be tested or the arbitrary yearly change. That is how I found out my system was not working correctly.
