June 24, 2012 - Solstice Up
This weekend saw one of Santa Barbara?s signature events, the Solstice Parade, marching through town. To paraphrase one local resident, it was a time to let our freak flags fly. The dedicated staff of Edhat.com was there, with clickers in hand. Counting drums, of course!
Ed thinks it? is a generational thing. Old timers from the Ronald Reagan years rally behind the Fiesta Parade: horses, Spanish costumes, and churros. The Baby Boomers gravitate toward Solstice: drums, minimal clothing, and freeform expressions of freedom and joy. So what are young?uns up to? Well they tried their best with Floatopia, but the powers that be (mostly representatives of previous generations) put an end to that quicker than the local rush hour. Ed thinks good things are coming from the next generation ? we?ll stay tuned to Facebook to find out what it is.
Well, the old parades will surely continue, and new ones will evolve. And Edhat hopes to be there counting ? come what may. But for now, we hope you will enjoy all that the Sunday Edhat has to offer.
The Dog of the Week features an interview with Bigs, the Silly Labrador; the Cat of the Week, Kitty, is a fine and beautiful hunter. The Urban Hikers continue their wandering, this week sending us views from the Miramar. And Nicole continues her training. Word on the street is that she has picked up an entourage for her 5k in July.
