Does anyone know if the Coroner's Bureau's records about causes of death are available to the public, and
if they are, how do I go about finding out about their findings?

Googling displays the Coroners' Office confidentiality - Very High. Which makes sense. They also must abide by HIPAA regs. Call the coroner's office to find out if you have any standing to obtain records (I assume legal pros with legal approval from survivors, & proven family only would have any claim, or a news org with enough money to bring FOIA suit). Next step in my mind is FOIA action. (Freedom of Information Act) Or hire an attorney for a wrongful death suit.

As I recall, the restriction went into place after Paul McCartney's wife passed away in Santa Barbara. ~~~~~~ Along with Death Certificates were made confidential also. ~~~~~~~~~~ Does anyone else remember that?

Practice had been that you could request a copy, family could receive one free everyone else had to pay. In some instances they will not release if there are special circumstances (ie: homicide). Best bet is to call the coroner's office and ask what current policy/procedure is.

Try calling or visiting the Office of the County Recorder rather than the coroner. That is where you can get copies of public records. A death certificate is a public record.

Death certificates are not public record in many states. Arizona is one of them.

Yes, Linda McCartney did not die here. But when she died, someone did start a credible rumor that she had died here.
