1924:  First annual Fiesta celebration.

1940:  Vivien Leigh and Sir Laurence Olivier marry at the San Ysidro Ranch.

February 23, 1942: Japanese navy submarine shells the oil refinery at Ellwood Beach. First Japanese attack on the US mainland.  (Years later Timbers Restaurant build with wood from damaged pier.)

1953John and Jackie Kennedy honeymoon at the San Ysidro Ranch. 

1967: Green Bay Packers trained for the first Super Bowl at UCSB.  They won.

January 29, 1969: Oil spill by Union Oil Company.  200,000 gallons of crude oil spread out into an 800 square mile slick. Earth Day was born nationwide the following spring.

1985: Members of the Harlem Globetrotters were detained on downtown State Street, at gunpoint, in the grossly mistaken notion that they were jewelry store robbers.

August 24,1993: Police raid Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch after accusations of child abuse.

2003: Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez did not marry in Santa Barbara.

January 2004:  Oprah celebrates 50th birthday and events conflict with 19th Annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
